A legend of the French and International refereeing. 21 consecutive French championship finals, 183 international and 620 first division games after it, Eddie Viator will put away his whistle soon and is about to become the new supervisor of the high level French referees, starting from July 1st.
Gries, FR, June 21st 2021, 8PM. This is the last official game in France for the most qualified French referee of the decade, Eddie Viator. He has lately won another trophy: he has been elected as the best referee of the JeepElite for the 2020-2021 season. He received this decoration just before officiating the quarter final between Strasbourg and Levallois. The 49 years old referee – that has always been in Sarcelles, Val d’Oise – will become the supervisor of the French high level referees. Chantal Julien has been in charge of this mission for 10 years, and will stop doing it on July 1st.
After refereeing on the ULEB Final in 2008, the Eurocup in 2012, the Men World Cup final in 2014, the Women Rio Olympics Final in 2016 and the Basketball Champions League final in 2019 and 2021, Eddie Viator will officiate one last time in a few days, on the international Olympic Qualification Tournament in Split. Congrats, Legend, with a capital L.
